The purpose of JaB EV is to create electric vehicles. Electric cars can be converted from regular gasoline cars by removing the engine, radiator, exhaust, gas tank, sensor wiring, etc..., and adding an electric motor, battery pack and controller. Making a car electric, greatly reduces the mechanical and even the electrical complexity. It is also a very economical process, costing less than you might think. Also, running on electricity costs about a third of gasoline. This is because the efficiency of an electric motor is about three times better than a gasoline engine. We hope to be able to offer a selection of options with costs between $5,000 and $10,000. Honestly, you can spend as much as you want depending on how far you want to go between charges and how fast you want the vehicle to be.
Our goal is to make energy efficient commuters. Currently there is no infrastructure for electric car charging throughout the US. Even though it is possible build systems that can charge in as little as 10 minutes, it would require more electricity than you have running to your house. This is something we would love to work on in the future. But right now, the best option is to use an electric vehicle for daily commuting, and probably keep a gas car for long trips. The range of an EV depends greatly on how you build it. It is very possible to get ranges from 30 miles per charge up to 200 miles per charge (and probably more, if you want to pay for it). According to statistics, the average comuter actually drives less than 20 miles per day, perfect for driving and EV. EV's really do allow for reduced pollution. Even if you charge your EV from the outlet in your garage, and power comes from a power plant, coal and natural gas power plants are much more efficient than individual gasoline engines. Even with emission controlls on cars, there will always be some that pollute much more they should. At the power plants, emissions are constantly monitored and controlled by very tight government regulations. The biggest way EV's allow for reduced pollution is that you have the oportunity to get your electricity from solar, wind, or any other clean and renewable energy source. The clean energy sources are one thing that Blue Skies Engeering hopes to be able to focus on building, improving, and distributing to the average person at reasonable costs.
