 Installing Battery Pack: Trojan T-105's It would be interesting to try adding another 12 volts to our battery pack and see if we burn out our controller or not. The controller is specked for 72V, but has an over-range protection for a high floating pack. I am betting that it can even be used higher than that, but the manufacturer wont say so, because they can charge more for a higher voltage controller. If we do fry the controller, I could probably take it appart, and fix it, and then we would know what the limit is, or maybe I could bump it up myself.
We also plan to build a nice battery case out of HDPE (a plastic that can withstand twice the concentration of sulfuric acid as batteries have. If we add two more of our 6 volt batteries, we would take these and two from our current pack and mount these four up front to help redistribute the weight to be closer to a stock configuration, with cargo.
We also plan on making a case for the electronics, to protect them from the environment and to protect people from sticking their fingers where they don't belong (we don't want any zaps). Also, it would be nice to remove the factor ignition-key steering wheel lock so that we can forget about the key, and just use the RFID key chain tags we have. We still plan to build a heater for the car (you kind of have to have a defrost in the winter). Our battery charger was "bottom of the barrel" for a cheap price, but that means lonnnnng charge times. I would like to build my own battery charger at some point.
We have thought about just scrapping the Subaru and putting all our components in to something lighter, like a Civic, but it is pretty cool to have a lot of room, selectable AWD, and the classic Subaru styling.
